The Archer

Resuscitated from under a bridge, an unidentified amnesiac refused to let his lack of connections stop him from becoming something worthwhile. Scouted by the government, the man nicknamed Archer would subject himself to the best combat training his country had to offer before volunteering to direct an association the likes of which had never been required before. Now an independent agent, he’s abandoned an unknown past for a stake in the world ahead.

Background

A group of straggling teens discovered a body under the Portsmouth bridge late one night. Miraculously still alive, he was rushed to the nearest hospital where doctors performed surgery to patch a bullet wound in his head. While they succeeded in rebuilding most of his skull and minimizing brain damage, physical and psychological scars remained. The only identifiers besides the clothes on his back was a wedding ring and birthmark across his neck, neither of which helped him reconnect with his past life.

While in physical therapy, he lapsed into a series of military workouts by muscle memory and began using a bow and arrows to exercise, a move that earned him the nickname Archer. During recovery, a retired federal agent named Johnathan Smoke scouted Archer out. Smoke had recently pitched an associative program to Congress regarding the formation of a team capable of handling fringe threats to ensure homeland security, and with the Battle of Wolfeboro only just concluded, Congress was finally willing to greenlight the project so long as a worthy candidate for director could be found within a year. Betting all his cards on Archer, Smoke offered him the opportunity to join the U.S. Special Forces as an advanced candidate for the program. With nothing to lose, Archer accepted the invitation and began three years of intensive training.

Archer’s combat bow and arrows

Given his natural aptitude for combat and weapons handling–not to mention a strategic intuition–Archer exceeded all expectations in SEALS training and prepared to deploy overseas for a shortened six month tour in Afghanistan. Smoke presented Archer with a prototype biometrics battle suit and custom military equipment to reward his graduation from training. While the tour was designed to be uneventful given its spot at a depot deep in allied territory, a surprise ambush from terrorists known as the Maws of Set resulted in the deaths of all but one of Archer’s squadmates.

A.R.C.H.E.R.S. Headquarters

Back in the States, Archer formally debuted as director of the newly established Advanced Reconnaissance Concerning High-Evaluated-Risk Syndicates Association, or A.R.C.H.E.R.S. as Smoke cleverly put it. While funding from the federal government was slim, Archer did his best to investigate and document suspect activities from underground groups, eventually discovering the S.K.U.L.L. and Nitro organizations. Because of Archer’s untraceable past, funding for the association was contingent upon an executive enforcer guiding and supervising the director during his duties, a role fulfilled by former Army Captain Devon Evo.

Archer continued to exceed expectations as director of the association, garnering more funding for the project and successfully minimizing S.K.U.L.L.’s efforts. He personally recruited agents Anya Sylva and Eli “Psycho” to his field team while working alongside independent heroes like Wolf-Man and the Xero Squadron. Eventually a founding member of the Peacemakers, Archer played key roles in the Apocalypse and Bloodmoon crises, advocating for heroes’ rights to perform duties all the while.

Outfit

Archer opted for mobility over protection, and often keeps the crimson hoodie he wore under the bridge as a memento, claiming that he already died in it once; if he does again, he should be wearing it. Below is a full breakdown of Archer’s outfit, including his armor, mask and respirator, biometric underlayer, and overlayer:
