Longtime friend of Richard “Redclaw” Koracar, Braedan Brock began his college career not only as a top-tier athlete but also an enviable computer science major. Credited as the only positive role model in Richard’s life, he helped his friend overcome dangerous habits while instructing him in software engineering and maintenance. During Richard’s struggles with the Redclaw prosthetic, Braedan sacrificed his future prospects in order to assist the situation and overcome his own inhibitions in the process.

Background

Braedan Brock was the childhood friend of Richard “Jason” Koracar. A talented computer programmer and mathematician in his own right, Brock was looking forward to a career as an IT technician or college professor. While peers and mentors encouraged Brock to pursue a career in athletics alongside his STEM field ambitions, he also recognized the importance of healthy work-life balance and built up interpersonal resources during recreational time. While Brock and Koracar got up to some morally dubious shenanigans during their programming adventures, Braedan always maintained distanced from the more radical engagements that Richard persisted in, like digital inception, and in fact actively dissuaded Richard from pursuing those avenues.

Life changed forever after the fateful day when Richard saved Braedan from an oncoming vehicular collision at the cost of his own arm. When family drama and Richard’s disability shattered his personal life, Brock was there for support. Braedan couldn’t continue to indulge Richard’s needs, however; especially after he returned to his more extreme programming practices and stole the Redclaw prosthetic.

When the Redclaw’s manufacturers, the “Worms,” came looking for the stolen artifact, Braedan helped Richard mount a defense. Brock sacrificed all possibilities of his athletic career when he began taking non-prescribed steroids to help fight off the Worms. Despite his best efforts, however, Brock could do nothing when the ongoing conflict eventually claimed Richard’s life.

When Richard returned from the grave, Braedan was the first to welcome him back and help him piece his life back together. Brock tagged along on several more of Richard’s adventures, and at one point held the honorary title of Peacemaker. Braedan was noted for his brutally efficient tactics and use of crude weaponry, such as an assortment of knives, hatchets, axes, and a homemade glaive–all of which concluded with him earning the nickname Barbarian.

In the end, Braedan retired prematurely from the fighting lifestyle to reconstruct a modest life for himself, taking up a respectable position as an IT technician and proposing to his future wife Clara.
