Pure Invention by Matt Alt

Recently I’ve been reading Pure Invention: How Japan’s Pop-Culture Conquered the World by Matt Alt. It’s been a stimulating and enlightening read, and I encourage others to pick it up as well! The book helped fill in the gaps in my knowledge for writing YouTube videos like The Edit of Evangelion.

Daily Equipment

Laptop: Lenovo Legion 5i Pro (Gen 7)

For the majority of my work, I use the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, 7th Generation. It’s perfect for editing, writing, and illustration, and the turbo mode has helped me out of more tough situations than I care to admit. Even though Lenovo has upgraded a few specifications in the latest models, I prefer the Gen 7 because the audio jack is on the left, which best suits my setup (plus I love the huge glowing logo on the top panel). It’s high-performance gear I highly recommend, and you can check it out on Amazon here: The Lenovo Legion

Display Tablet: Huion Kamvas Pro 13

What do I illustrate on, though? Well that’d be the Huion Kamvas Pro 13, which has proven reliable since the first day I used it. It’s certainly bizarre at times coupled with the Lenovo Legion, as the laptop’s 16×10 display doesn’t always translate to my tablet display, but I’ve discovered a format which actually optimizes this detail and allows me to draw faster, better, and more reliably. Especially if you’re hooking in to a standard display, I highly recommend this drawing tablet. You can see it on Amazon here: Huion Kamvas Pro 13

Headset: Turtle Beach Recon 150

Whether for work or leisure, Turtle Beach’s Recon 150’s have proven the perfect headwear for me. I’m not a huge fan of headsets, so the fact I find this one so comfortable is a huge bonus and allows me to audio edit (or, let’s be real, play Xbox) for hours without needing to adjust them. I prefer good old wired and built-in accessories, and even after years of use they show no signs of wear. I highly recommend them, especially if you’re like me and don’t usually prefer headsets. Again, you can find them here: Turtle Beach Recon 150
