Katana

Sole survivor of an attack on her rural village, Kara Ellen Wong chose to join the Cowled and train herself as an assassin to save souls such as herself from the monsters of the world. After graduating the Blitz ceremony, she personally tutored Samuel Cor before transferring with him to the Northeast United States where the two tackled organized crime and, later, supernatural threats.

Background

Kara Ellen Wong was the sole survivor of her Chinese village after it burned to the ground. Members of the Cowled scoured the village’s remains soon after and found Kara hiding in the wreckage. The Cowled exported her to their headquarters where they set about training her into a competent warrior.

Sorted into the Asian House, Kara soon made friends with Li-Ann Bai, as well as students of other Houses including Samuel Cor, Peter Stork, and Gabriel Da-wan. Kara excelled at her training to the point that was deployed on a special supervised mission to Dubai where she completed her first official task; she then returned to the City to undertake her graduation trial, the Blitz, which she subsequently passed.

During her training, Kara grew especially close to Samuel, who reciprocated her feelings. Once it became clear the two were romantically involved, Li-Ann, pining after Samuel and jealous of Kara, made an attempt on her life. Kara survived the attempt and Li-Ann was quickly removed from the City, transferred to a Cowled arctic outpost instead.

When Samuel failed his first Blitz, Kara elected to stay within the City an extra year and personal tutor him. Her lessons paid off when Samuel passed his second Blitz. Graduating with honors, Kara was codenamed Katana after the weapon she specialized in during training. She then accompanied Samuel post-graduation and moved in with him in Portland, Maine, in the United States.

During their stay in the States, Samuel and Kara took transporter jobs and fought against organized crime like the Nitro Syndicate, where they faced off against former friend Peter Stork. They later participated in the Bloodmoon Crisis, which earned them both invitations from the Peacemakers. While Samuel joined the heroes’ group, Kara opted to remain independent, continuing on her own path while lending a hand where necessary.
