Malains

The Malains are one of two conscious races that inhabit the second world of Laurina. Along side but unlike the red skinned Exogons, the pale Malains have evolved to become a technologically advanced race. But they also have an incredible understanding of physics, astronomy, theology and philosophy. They’re only slightly different from humans in physical ways, but mentally, they’re nearly identical.

History

The common belief among the Malains regarding how the world began is quite interesting. The story goes somewhat like this:

Lauria, mother of the Malain race

When God created the Second World He made one man and one woman. They had many children and lived happily together until the Serpent appeared. The Serpent attacked the woman, aiming to kill her, but the man intervened. The Serpent and the man had a fantastic battle until the Serpent’s head was crushed under the man’s heel. But the man suffered from his wounds, and the Serpent’s poison was quickly seeping into him, stopping his heart. In his last moments the man told the woman to protect their world, and not only gave her permission, but begged her to name the world after herself. The woman, Lauria, promised these things before laying her husband to rest. Lauria went on to govern the world of her children. She lived for many years before dying a peaceful death and leaving the world in the hands of her children. This is why the Second World is called Laurina.

Over time the Malains have grown to become an incredibly intelligent and advanced race. Though nowhere near the level of knowledge or technology that Chirotonians are at, the Malains are in many ways more advanced than humans. Of course, with certain developments come drawbacks, so though many aspects of Malain life is advanced, there are many more that aren’t. The Malains are more advanced in engineering and space travel, but there are lots of underdeveloped areas of Laurina and many more conflicts as a result.

In the 1970s A.D. the Malains traveled to the nearby dwarf planet of Cora I. They claimed the planet and began constructing around it in hopes of terraforming the planet and making it habitable. The southern countries, mainly Calandia, controlled the most space travel technology, and therefore controlled most of Cora I. Cora I was renamed Qui, and terraforming began in the early 2000s. During the Sivilence Wars Qui was used as an away testing field where scientists were creating weapons for the Calandian Empire.
