The Serpentine is a governmental subgroup of non-jurisdictional wardens authorized with detaining specified high-threat personnel deemed unfit for standard high-security prison. Housed instead within the Serpent Holding Facility, high-threat personnel are monitored and attended to by in-house operators. Field agents utilize a variety of non-lethal and lethal weaponry for detainment and de-escalatory purposes, and often backup other affiliations such as A.R.C.H.E.R.S. and T.A.R.R.G.E.T.T. when engaging nonstandard threats. Their title, the Serpent, is derived from the Latin word ceperunt, meaning “to capture.”

The Serpent Holding Facility consists of two principal sections, the North Wing and South Wing. The South Wing, located nearest to ground level and the exits, holds standard convicts associated with higher-level threats, and was primarily used to contain members of the Black Cross after the Battle of Wolfeboro. The South Wing is also used for data collection and hardware storage. The North Wing, located mostly underground, consists of specialized prison cells designed specifically for intended occupants. Cells are located at a distance from each other and have a variety of safeguards in place should an attempted breach take place.
Track Record:
The Serpent Facility was only ever breached once by the S.K.U.L.L.-Black Cross collude, who succeeded in freeing Prisoner 00-0, Maverick the Death Herald, from the North Wing. The South Wing of the facility also served as a temporary infirmary and research center for Thomas Fleck shortly after the Apocalypse of Wolfeboro.
