The Stalker

“I’m watching. Always.”

~The Stalker

A troubled young adult, Blake Morrison, worked a steady 9-8 job at the local pharmacy, only dealing with day-to-day patients and his own drug addiction when the Stalker showed up to his house. Blake, having dealt with chronic anxiety his whole life, was the unfortunate perfect prey for the Stalker, a being which feeds on fear. To prevent becoming its victim, Blake made a deal with the Stalker to become its host instead, and began the long and ultimately terrific path of finding his own courage.

Background

Blake Morrsion led an unremarkable life as a job-hopping delinquent. Eventually landing himself a spot as a pharmacy technician at St. Damian’s Pharmacy, Blake used his role to covertly feed his dextromethorphan and smoking addiction. His life changed after one night walking home when he noticed a cloaked figure following him. His paranoia sparked, Blake spent the next several days in fear of his wellbeing as he continued to spy the figure stalking him. Finally resolving to lock himself up in his apartment for a weekend, Blake decided the figure was a hallucination brought on by his addictions and tried to quit both habits. After failing to stay clean, Blake immersed himself in a deep stupor–which is when the Stalker finally came to claim him.

The hooded figure seized Blake and forcefully induced a fear-haze, sending Blake spiraling into a momentary madness as he found himself dragged through a series of visions consisting of his greatest fears. The haze concluded with the Stalker attempting to drown Blake’s mind in terror, but then the extraordinary occurred: Blake fought back. In a desperate bid of courage, Blake retaliated and forced the Stalker into submission. During his brief advantage, Blake attempted to save himself and offered to make a deal with the Stalker. The Stalker accepted, and conditions were agreed upon: the Stalker would take Blake’s body as a host, feeding on his innate fear, and Blake would inherit the Stalker’s powers for as long as the bond lasted. It was a mutually beneficial relationship at first, but the reality of it quickly wore Blake down to the bone.

After the deal was struck, the Stalker’s companion, an Archangel of Saron by the name of Myth, introduced herself. Myth explained the nature of the Stalker and the exactness of the deal which he had just made. The Stalker was a distinct entity comprised of two individuals: a host (in this case, Blake Morrison), and Metus, the Spirit of Fear that drew power from the dark realm of the Nether. Whenever Blake was possessed and bound to Metus, thus becoming the Stalker, Metus’ previous host, an Archangel named Michael Agornson, was free to recuperate from his time as host.

Myth further explained that the Stalker had originated on a different world, and had been banished along with twelve Archangels to Earth. Each Archangel was bound to the essence of Metus, granting them all immortality for as long as humanity had fear to offer. While the other eleven Archangels had long since parted ways, Myth remained by the Stalker’s side, a decision which ultimately turned her into Michael’s caretaker during his recovery and Blake’s mentor during his burgeoning months as the Stalker.

Power-hungry and ambitious, Blake began by targeting people of all kinds, regardless of intention, but as time went on he learned to control the Stalker’s fear-lust and began attacking only the guilty. Blake, as the Stalker, began seeking out criminals in Rochester, feeding on the fear of the weak and contending against the might of the strong. Tormenting less innocents and focusing on the hardened criminals, the Stalker became an urban legend and demented antihero.

Stalker’s hunt for the fearful eventually led him to tracking down members of the S.K.U.L.L. organization, a happenstance occurrence that resulted in his participation in the Apocalypse of Wolfeboro. Blake joined forces with other heroes afterwards and became a founding member of the Peacemakers.
