Visionary

Caelum Cato and his friends witnessed an alien spaceship crash onto Earth. Eager to investigate, they ventured into the woods to discover the spacecraft and it’s wounded pilot, Valarico Gideon. Valarico gifted a Corestone–a manufactured artifact capable of immense power–to each of the teens to keep them from falling into the hands of the malicious Maloury. Caelum inherited the Corestone of Truesight and became a founding member and leader of the Xero Squadron, a superhero team dedicated to defending their world from the forces of evil.

Background

Caelum Cato, only born son of Jordan and Mary Cato, led a more or less regular life until his freshman year of high school when the tragic death of his father sent him down a path of rebelliousness. During his senior year of high school, Caelum started an underground fighting ring with his friend Brian Drake. Although an open secret that most fights were staged, students still flocked to each and every event to see the showdowns. Caelum’s adopted brother, Raymond, collected bets from the audience, making the violent endeavor quite a money-maker. The positive reception from most bloodthirsty teens earned Jacob the nickname Visionary.

One day, while leaving the ring, Caelum, Brian, Raymond, and fellow student Valorie Wyld witnessed a spacecraft crash to Earth. Eager to investigate and offer help, the four teens entered the woods only to find an alien spaceship lying in the crater. The ship’s pilot, Valarico Gideon, bestowed four Corestones to the teens. To Caelum, he gave the Corestone of Truesight. Valarico explained that alien warmongers, the Maloury, sought the stones, and the teens needed to keep them safe at all costs. Valarico also gifted them the Laurian Vambraces before succumbing to his wounds, leaving the teens to fend for themselves with their newfound powers.

Over the next several weeks, the four friends battled through sickness as their bodies acclimated to their new abilities before beginning to experiment with their capabilities. Along with heightened senses and an overall augmented physique, Caelum discovered he could see through objects and emit vast amounts of energy in the form of laser vision. The Laurian Vambraces proved to be useful tools capable of materializing nonorganic matter into various forms, including suits and basic weaponry.

The Maloury, having tracked Valarico’s ship, discovered the teens and sent a raiding party down to Earth. Refusing to give up the stones, Caelum and the others battled the aliens, eventually leading the Maloury’s chief general, Xiuhcoatl, to deal with matters himself. What occurred next would come to be known as the First Malourian Incursion, as alien invaders attempted to take the Corestones by force. Caelum rallied his friends and repelled the invaders, leading to the first decisive victory for the group that would come to be known as the Xero Squadron.

Caelum would later use his nickname Visionary as a proper operator title. He participated in the Apocalypse and Bloodmoon events, and helped found the superhero collective known as the Peacemakers.
